Preparations for surveillance APP

Diligence. A proper word to discribe the work by the ICAO ATS-team right now.

Peter and Fredrik have spent many hours with their laptops. A new SSI (Station Standing Instructions) have been produced for surveillance approach control in Windhoek TMA. There has also been a lot of work put in to change the airspace. A “radar terrain chart” is now available to make efficient radar vectoring possible with sufficient ground clearance in the mountainous area of the TMA.

Tanja has produced a series of simulator exercises and we have lately been very busy testing these to make sure they work well and will help the local controllers develop skills and working methods for the surveillance services.

On Monday 2 April training will commence. We are all looking forward to this. If everything continue as planned surveillance operations will start in Windhoek TMA by end of June.
