Thursday morning was an early one. I had to be at Eros airport at 6…
I was offered to join the crew of an Air Namibia Embraer E135.
Checklist reading, passenger boarding and Namibia 164 is ready for taxi.
Cleared for take-off runway 01…
…and with the destination being Ondangwa that means almost no turn, just straight ahead…
..climbing to FL 360. On the left side you can see that the cruising speed is very close to maximum allowed speed. So it’s no use trying to use speed control by increasing the speed of an E135…
Unfortunately way out of focus but the white spot is “Speedbird 59”, a British Airways B747 on FL380 heading for Cape Town.
With no instrument approach at Ondangwa we made a visual approach in rain for runway 26.
Up here you almost get a Southern Sweden Christmas feeling…
It was only a short stop and I did not leave the aircraft, just put my nose out of the door…
…before returning to the cockpit and soon Namibia 165 got the take-off clearance for runway 08.
It was mostly cloudy in the north but I got some nice views over this very large country, seemingly unhabitated…
..before returning to the civilization of Windhoek on a long final…
…to runway 19. Back in the office before 10, this is a nice way to start your day.
