Organ Pipes

Very close to “the Burnt Mountain” you will find “the Organ Pipes”.

You are able to drive along a dry riverbed and get very close.

As described in the earlier post, the Gondwana continent was separating 125 million years ago.

This lead to hot magma and molten rock being pressed up to the surface.

On it’s way up it cooled from the outer parts.

The still warm central parts had just one way to move, vertically.

When even these parts cooled they were by contraction split vertically, thus forming what you can see today.

The result is quite stunning!

There is a spot in Northern Ireland where you can see a similar “natural wonder” but the one in Namibia has not been eroded from the sea and therefore is in a better condition.
