Rostock FlyIn 2012 – the bomb drop

When we recently visited Kuiseb Canyon we were really on our way to Rostock Ritz and their yearly fly-in.

I soon found myself not flying but driving out in the desert…

I was told to park my car next to this junk-filled crater, I was given an air-band radio…

..and was ordered to keep a good look at this white cross in the western end of the crater.

Soon I realized what was going on…. I was a bombdrop target! The first attack (Cessna 210) was low and with high speed…

…the second (also Cessna 210) even lower but slower with flaps…

…and they (Tecnam this time) just kept on coming…

..from all directions (another Tecnam) and I did not even have a helmet…

…but instead I had a crazy german woman coming out to give me coffee…

…so all in all (Cheetah) it was a rather unusual and highly joyable day in the desert…

...and on my way home I studied the houses…

…that are built by that crazy woman…

…using bottles and bags of sand…

…from the Namib Desert…

You never know what will happen in Namibia!
