Solitaire

During the fly-in we realized that we needed fuel to get home the next day. The nearest gas station was 40 km away so off we went. Just to find the car stopping after only a few hundred meters and the driver was out…

But Peter was not taking photos of that tree. Rather of these…

Ever so cute squirrels (sv: jordekorrar…).

Then we came out on another of those amazing Namibian gravel roads. Until it was again time for animal photos…

Springbok…

Ostrich…

Cool bird!

And a gemsbok with huge horns.

Finally! The target. A gas station in the middle of nowhere and with a very suitable name.

This place is like picked out of a movie.

The coolest wild west town in the middle of the desert.

The deliberately placed cars helped make a very special atmosphere.

Cool!

And the Solitaire general dealer had just the right feel. Just look at John Wayne, eeh Alfonso I mean…

And the inside fulfilled the outdoor promise.

It’s not a place that normally gets much rain…

But if yoy are thirsty it’s still the right place!

Solitaire was in fact a place to visit even for those taking part in the fly-in X-country competition. But this year they were more lucky than this fellow.

However, we were not here for flying so we found Solitaires famous Bakery…

…and their very famous and delicious apple pie. It is actually baked on a recipe from New Zeeland as Peter soon heard. Enjoying the cake and the place we could also see some more of Namibias wildlife…

…in a smaller scale…

…but still nice!
