From Brandberg we headed nort and then northwest into Damaraland. We saw this sign…
…and of course had hopes. This is the area of the desert Elephants and we saw the riverbeds but unfortunately no elephants.
As you leave Brandberg and Uis you also leave much of “civilization” behind. Every now and then a small farm like the one above but not much else. We passed the tourist attractions – the Burnt Mountain, the Organ Pipes, the Damara Living Museum and Twyfelfontein – and we had a lunch but no time for more, just to keep on driving…
…into the areas where you see more animals (Oryx above) than humans…
…and nature is getting more and more “out of the world” as you are getting closer to the coast.
At Springbokwasser we entered the “Namib Skeleton Coast Park”. If you intend going this way check the opening hours – we almost came too late…
On the way westbound most signs of life disappear. This is the place to shoot a movie if your scene is to be on some dead planet in the universe.
Getting closer to the coast the wind increased. It looked like the south of Sweden in wintertime…
…but instead of snow it was sand…
…and the first sight of Springbok amazed us. We just concluded that we were on a dead planet!? Then…
…we suddenly saw this oasis. I don’t know where the water is coming from but it’s there and with it all these antelopes…
…looking curiously at us as we just hurried on…
…almost reaching our goal before the sun set…
